What is the new I Decide Campaign?
In an effort to consolidate our Vision 2020 campaigning we are re-introducing I Decide as our overall campaign name for the next 3 years. I Decide will continue to have an annual thematic focus informed by 2 Vision 2020 goals each year. Governing Council has mandated that in 2017 the focus goals will be 2 & 7. In 2018 the theme will include Goal 9. As with previous years, Goal 10 will be mainstreamed across every campaign.
Each year the campaign will have specific objectives, policy recommendations, and targets accompanied by a Policy Report as with previous years. To demonstrate the annual focus of the campaign, each year a tagline will be developed to add to the I Decide name indicating the specific thematic issue within the Vision2020 manifesto that we are campaigning on.
How does this relate to the New Strategic Framework?
The I Decide campaign will contribute to many of the objectives in the New Strategic Framework (http://www.ippf.org/resource/ippfs-strategic-framework-2016-2022). We have made the ambitious commitment that by 2022, one billion people will act freely on their sexual and reproductive health and rights. All of the Vision 2020 goals that will inform the I Decide Campaign are directed toward achieving this commitment. Each year’s campaigning objectives will link to different aspects of the strategic framework. They will also complement our national and global advocacy on the same issues. We will set annual campaign indicators related to the strategic framework that will allow us to monitor and evaluate the cumulative impact of campaigning activities across the 3 years.
I Decide 2017
I Decide 2017 aims to address Goals 2 and 7 of Vision 2020 manifesto:
Goal 2 - Increase access to sexual and reproductive health and rights in order to close the gap between the top and bottom wealth quintiles by 50% by the year 2020
Goal 7 - Reduce by at least 50% the current unmet need for family planning by the year 2020
With I Decide 2017, we are primarily aiming to influence decision makers to prioritize and invest in unmet family planning needs, with a sharp focus on the needs of marginalized and vulnerable women and girls. This speaks to the commitment within the strategic framework to enable the sexual and reproductive health and rights of the most under-served. It also links directly to the commitment at the heart of the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework, to ‘leave no one behind’.
We will also try to influence other stakeholders through our campaigning including encouraging donors to invest more in family planning services and service providers to lower the price of family planning products and services to address this unmet need.
This campaign will also act as an opportunity for IPPF to grow its activist and youth supporter base by offering a new opportunity to campaign on the right to access contraceptive / family planning services for women and girls everywhere.
Straplines will include:
● I Decide: Equal access to family planning
● I Decide: Equal access to contraception
● I Decide: The right to decide how to plan my family.
